Do you ever have moments where you think ‘why am I doing this? What is the point?’. Or perhaps you have had moments when you expected to achieve something, but you didn’t. Did it impact your happiness because you thought you failed?

As we move forward, we experience and learn new things changing us as people. We begin to think differently and behave differently. When we do change, when we do start to think differently about things, our passions, desires and needs also change. The same things that used to make us happy, the things that used to drive us, no longer seem as meaningful.

I love to write and love to share knowledge and help others live and lead better lives. I am twenty thousand words into an ‘understanding your human’ wellness book which, although the topic is still important to me, I am having a moment of ‘is this the book I want to write?’. As the years fly by whilst writing this book, other topics are becoming more important to me which may be why I don’t sit down to write as often as I ‘should’, leaving me feeling guilty for not having completed this book already.

I am recognizing a shift within me. Although passionate about health and fitness, the more I read and understand about the impact of humans on the planet, the more I am starting to think more passionately about this topic. Climate change and our planet are becoming much more of a focus. How do we get more people taking notice and taking care of our natural world? What can I do? How can I use my skills and passions, for the greater good? How is spending my time writing a book on human wellness going to help the planet? So many questions which I am currently working through.

That is why I am not writing as much as I should because the content just doesn’t seem as important, and it must change.

When something doesn’t have the same meaning anymore, why is it that we feel bad or guilty about changing direction and potentially not finishing what we started? Does it really matter that we don’t finish what we start? We can change and move on to new things, can’t we? Are there times when you have felt like you should finish something because you said you were going to, but you just don’t have the same passion or drive to do so? Perhaps it is because we are taught to ‘finish what we start’ and when we don’t then we are made to feel as though we have failed. I am not sure, but does it really matter when it comes to our passions and hobbies, that we move from one to another, or change direction, without meeting our original goal?

Of course not. It only matters if we let it matter.

What matters most is that our lives are serving us well. That whatever we are doing is bringing us health and happiness. If we stick to something that is no longer serving our needs, we should change it before we literally waste our lives doing something that doesn’t bring us the happiness, joy, love or any other warm fuzzy that our passions are supposed to bring.

Also, why are we always in a hurry to finish something and move on to the next thing? Does it really matter how long something takes? If we find comfort and joy in it, then the longer it takes the better. Right? It is just bringing us happiness for longer.

Move over expectations and hello happiness!

The moral of this story… life is too short to be rushing through and/or analysing everything we do. If it feels right, do it. If it doesn’t feel right, stop doing it. If you want to start it again, start it again. We can get so caught up with what the ‘right thing’ to do is, that we stop enjoying the simple act of doing that thing.

Every action we take leads us somewhere and the most important thing is that those actions are helping us to lead the lives we want to lead. That our energies are focused on the things that bring us true happiness.

What are you doing at the moment just because you feel you have to? Perhaps it’s time to take check, take the pressure off, live in the moment and enjoy the things that bring you joy.

Flexible expectations and happiness. Live your best life.
